Zara
(played by Anna Vocino)

Zara’s a high school art teacher, but her passion is painting. You know the saying -- ‘those that can’t, teach.’ Which pretty well sums up her talent. Although she does have the passion of an artist and she curses like a sailor on leave. Zara’s really upset that the incumbent mayoral candidate might slash the budget for her school’s art program and put her out of a job, so she jumps full force into the campaign for Whitehead. She’s committed to all things liberal, and isn’t afraid of a confrontation, even with her beloved husband, Brendan.

But at what cost?

Brendan
(played by John C. Hansen)

Brendan’s the intellect in the group. He organized the Democratic headquarters for Whitehead, and gave the job of running it to his friend Katherine, an old flame. He’s an ad copyrighter-cool, always on, always with the witty turn of a phrase. The problem is, Brendan can only do it in small doses -- and as great as he is with words, he can’t seem to find the fuel to finish his historical novel. Maybe another fight with his wife -- or the results of the mayoral election -- will provide the push.

Or will it?

  Katherine
(played by Katrina Law)

Born and raised in a conservative, wealthy family, Katherine somehow learned to be open and accepting. Maybe it was her form of rebelling against her parents? Her rebellion is seen most clearly in her choice of a husband, the sweet but ridiculous Steamin’ Dick. Katherine is organized, professional and in control, which is why Brendan tapped her to lead the Democratic campaign. Katherine is the owner and founder of Venison’s most successful dating service, It’s Just Coffee, which provides busy urban professionals with ‘coffee dates.’ Who wants to waste valuable time on dinner and a movie, when you could be taking a meeting or keeping up on your emails? Katherine is a success, but she’s also uptight, soulless and confused, which leads us to believe she may be hiding something. Maybe Steamin’ Dick and his music can bring the secret out
of her.

And maybe some passion too.

  Steamin’ Dick
(played by Tom O’Keefe)

Steamin’ is carrying on his family’s ‘tradition of musicology.’ As an ode to his late ‘pops,’ Dick leads a ‘classic rock’ band, 4-play. They play mostly covers, and a few dubious originals, most notably the song Dick wrote for his wedding with Katherine – the cheesy power-ballad ‘(I Can’t Stop) Missing You.’ Since they only play backyard keggers and company picnics, Katherine got him a job working for her father’s accounting firm. But now the romance is on the rocks. The flame has died. Most people find it hard to understand how Katherine got involved with Dick, let alone marry him. But we can. Dick is a loyal, loveable, immature rockin’ teddy bear. Even if he is dumb as a plant. So when he tries to woo Katherine back –

The results are positively steamin.’

Midge
(played by Eric Bloom)

Midge is the mystery of the group. We’re not sure how or why get got involved with the Democrats -- or why he was welcomed. As the story goes, he met Zara at Stonehenge, a relics and antiquities emporium, was smitten, struck up a conversation -- and just became one of the gang. Midge is a bit out of touch with the real world, and quite the nerd. He longs to live in Medieval times, but considering he’s neither strong of mind or body, it seems an odd choice. Undaunted, he belongs to, indeed lives for, Gehyhor, a Medieval wargaming club, where ‘Re-enactors’ fight monthly ‘battles’ in Venison’s park. Being with his new friends at the Democratic Headquarters gets Midge to open up and show ‘normal’ people what he’s really about. And he’s holding a candle for his maiden, Zara. Will he take a stab?

And can he take his newfound glory onto the battlefield?
